My granddaughter just made reservations this week for a trip to Madrid on May 29th -- cost for one adult aka 18 year old kid was almost $1,600 for coach. What ever happened to cheaper fares if you booked ahead?erphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09826044412670324694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5806884.post-55260344902012776192016-02-15T14:50:22.841-08:002016-02-15T14:50:22.841-08:00More than one person fits in a hybrid, so per pass...More than one person fits in a hybrid, so per passenger-mile, a fully occupied hybrid does better, no?

No. A typical airliner flies at more than 90% capacity; typical Prius, less than 50%.

Though if this treaty makes jet travel more expensive (or slower or more cumbersome or ...), then more people will drive instead of fly ...

And now we step right into the land of unintended consequences. Because aeronautical engineers have balanced all the competing requirements to a fare-thee-well, this diktat must make airline travel more expensive -- in a sense, it will be a carbon tax.

The unacknowledged problem with a carbon tax is places like, oh, Hawaii, or Tahiti, Cozumel, etc. Any place that has a heavily tourist dependent economy, and requires airplanes to get there.

So, yeah, let's make air travel really expensive, in order to reduce CO2 by a vanishingly small amount. And in so doing crash the Hawaiian economy. Has anyone factored in to their CO2 calculations the cost of evacuating the place?Hey Skipperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10798930502187234974noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5806884.post-10744938304249425602016-02-15T09:12:36.696-08:002016-02-15T09:12:36.696-08:00Hey Skipper,
