This is a big reason why I don't believe the people in charge have the slightest actual concern for the poor, only the seeming of caring matters. This system is obviously not designed to be used by poor and struggling people, but really by the well off cognitive elite.

AOG,

Please, what is a "cognitive elite"?

Good question, Clovis. I don't know why AOG is going all cerebral on us--must be that lack of a lower brain. Up here we just call them snotty, pain-in-the-ass, insufferable, self-impressed, know-far-less-than-they-think, privileged elites.

Down here we call them geeks.

The "cognitive elite" is that brand of Modern American Leftists who is insufferably smug and condescending about his intellectual achievements, and who make their living through symbol manipulation (writers, artists, lawyers, etc.)

AOG,

You are a programmer, or in other words, a symbol manipulator.

Are you in the cognitive elite?

No, because

1) I don't think it makes me a morally more valuable person.*

2) I don't think it entitles me to control other people's lives because I can make better decisions for them than they can for themselves.

* It certainly makes me an economoically more valuable person, but as a libertarian, free market, capitialist kind of guy I realize that money has no moral qualities. In the end, we're all just people.

AOG,

But you do feel yourself superior compared to the "cognitive elite" by the very same reasons above, don't you?

I mean, you in effect feel yourself as morally superior by declaring not to be someone snob about his own superiority.

You can't run from your own hubris, AOG. Unless you confess you, and everybody else, is as flawed.

I don't feel superior for the very same reasons, I think it more they are less than normal, rather than I am better, and I don't feel superior enough to think I can make their life decisions for them.
