Clarification: Nothing Copyrighted at Great Guys

Just to be clear, nothing written at Great Guys, posts or comments, no matter how amazing or erudite, is either property or copyrightable. If you wanna think you own it or a copyright of it, please don't post it here.

If you do grab writing from here, it would be nice (and I would say courteous) to give attribution and/or a link, but, as far as I'm concerned, even that's not necessary.

I felt I oughtta point that out based on discussions in another thread, just in case.

... so if we write a best seller spoofing certain zany comments which appeared in this space, we should, to be courteous, provide public attribution and expose, that is to say, reveal the author?

lol

I did note that "even that's not necessary."

... not necessary, but courteous. Good manners were a very important component of my generation.

Oh good. I plan to fund my retirement by compiling the collected works of Harry Eagar and pass them off as my own.

Peter,

There may actually be quite a large market for that. I'm pretty sure Harry's unique perspective has pretty broad appeal.

News on copyright infringement in EU.

Everyone probably already saw this, but it's interesting that the question seems to be popping up and lot right now?

Erp,

I love the ending paragraph:

"Ownership ought to mean something. When you buy a cellphone, or a car, or a home-automation controller, it should belong to you, not the company that “sold” it to you. And if intellectual property law says otherwise, then Congress should change it."

Now, good luck with changing it against all those lobbying powers...

Question to Skipper: who is really stealing other people's "effort" here?

erp: Interesting article.

Clovis:

Google, definitely.

I think this guy is indeed innovating.

Good to see someone fighting back.

I wonder if it would've generated Amazon's one-click purchase patent?

My bet is that a human being will think of something not on that list and PDQ.
